Our journey: how we started and why

Discover the story behind Rural Learning. We are parents of children with additional needs and have helped set up various SEN teams and we'll tell you how our personal experiences inspired us to create a nurturing space where children can thrive through nature-based learning.

With my two teenagers, a pair of shears, borrowed wheelbarrow, a rusty garden fork and sheer determination we turned a space full of six foot weeds into a thriving space for children to learn; with a wildflower area, art area, sensory area, growing areas ,wildlife pond and hens we sent email after email ,created policy after policy to ensure we met Hertfordshire County Council's requirements.

We worked through the rain and the night- a family of four with a vision from a mum who had struggled through the system of mainstream with a child with additional needs, who had helped set up various SEN(D) teams locally and who knew that nature could provide the peace, the calm, the regulation and the learning that is so sought after by many.

Now Hertfordshire County Council recognised, children services approved we work with children and young people with additional needs and requirements and their families as well as specialist schools and other organisations to plant the seed of growth into our future generations 🌳

A unique approach to nature-based learning
